Owner checklist
The site cannot get visitors by itself. This is the part you do.
Better than average here means a project cluster plus an email list, not a louder sales page. Average affiliate sites publish one review and buy ads. That usually loses money.
This week
- Open a free account at clickbank.com. Your nickname becomes the
turtypigin every hop link. Vendor staystedsplans. - Buy a domain that sounds like the niche, not like coupons. Examples: shedbenchplans.com, garagebuildnotes.com. Avoid “ted” in the name so you are not pretending to be the vendor.
- Host the HTML files. Netlify, Cloudflare Pages, or any static host is enough. Point the domain at it.
- Find-and-replace
turtypigandexample.comin these files. - Add the site in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Submit
sitemap.xml.
What actually moves visitor count
| Channel | Why it can beat average | Your job |
|---|---|---|
| Search | These pages target shed plans, first workbench, and tool list — queries with a project, not “Ted’s Woodworking review” alone. Review keywords are crowded. | Publish 2 more project pages a month for 6 months. Same format as the shed page. Do not spin the same article. |
| DIY plans traffic is still visual there. You asked to skip images here to save usage; you still need 3 simple pins per article later. | One pin per guide: title, footprint or bench height, link. No income claims on the pin. | |
| Average sites depend on one visit. A list lets you send the shed checklist, then the library offer. | Add a free tool: a one-page cut-list checklist via Buttondown, Kit, or Beehiiv. Mention it on every guide. | |
| Forums and Reddit | r/woodworking and garage-shed threads already ask for plan sources. | Answer the build question first. Link only if someone asks for a plan source. Affiliate links get removed if the post is only a pitch. |
Numbers worth planning on
Better than average is not “$2 EPC from day one.” It is a higher click rate because the page matches the project, and a second chance via email.
- Month 6 target if you publish twice a month and do Search Console properly: about 1,000–2,000 visits, on the order of $150–$300 in commissions.
- Month 12 if the email list is a few hundred people: roughly $700–$1,200. That is the better-than-average band for a solo niche site, not a media-buying business.
- Do not buy Facebook ads until you know your cost per hop click. If it is over about $1.50, you are paying more than this offer usually returns.
ClickBank will not pay you until the account exists and the nickname is in the link. Until then every button is a dead placeholder.
