A bookshelf sags if the shelf is too thin for the span.
Books are heavy. A 3/4-inch shelf over 32 inches needs a support or a thicker board. The plan should say the span, not just show a pretty case.
- Back panel, even a thin one, keeps the box square.
- Fixed shelves are stronger. Adjustable shelves need more side thickness.
- Anchor a tall case to the wall.
